Good evening, gents. Welcome to the weekend, and in the words of Kool & The Gang…”get ya back up off the wall.”
—Collier Roberts
In this week’s newsletter, we’ll get into:
Watching the map, not the clock
Having “macro patience, micro speed”
Determining the path
THE WORD
Direction > Speed

Saw this a few times this week and couldn't track down who said it first. Doesn't matter. It's worth chewing on:
"The compass was invented before the clock. The direction you're headed is more important than how fast you get there.”
THE STANDARD
Know where you are going before you start moving

Everything around us is selling speed. Quick fix. Life hack. Make a million in a week. Change your life by Monday.
So it's easy to stare at the clock and think: Why aren't I further along?
Here's the thing, though: speed isn't the problem. Moving fast in the wrong direction is. You can hustle your way into a hole just as easily as you can drift into one.
Remember: direction first. Then speed.
Gary Vaynerchuk put it clean: "Micro speed, macro patience." Move with urgency day to day. Stay locked in on the long view. Both matter. But one has to come first.
The compass. Then the clock.
THE MOVE
Orient before you move

Before your next decision, run it through these three questions:
Is this short-term or long-term thinking?
If it's short-term: is it still a step toward where I'm actually going, or just feels good right now?
If it's long-term: what am I willing to give up to see it through?
Know a man who'd find this useful? Forward this to him.
Hold the line,
-Collier
