Good Friday morning, lads! Rough week for my Heels - lost in the Final game of the College World Series. But the W's kept coming elsewhere: the Carolina Hurricanes won the Stanley Cup, Tarheel Caleb Wilson got drafted 4th overall by the Bulls (shoutout MJ and the Windy City), and we just found out UNC is playing Illinois right here in Nashville this basketball season. It's in my blood, guys. I love sports. I also love pain. IYKYK.

In this week’s newsletter, we’ll get into:

  • Avoiding silence

  • Making room for your faith

  • Getting away…alone

THE WORD
“We drown in entertainment to avoid silence where God speaks, then complain when he is silent.”—Jonathan Pokluda

He said what he said….

This one will make you rethink a few things. It's something I struggle with - and I'd bet everyone does, to some degree.

Let's do the math. Studies show the average person spends 5-6 hours a day on their phone. Add in TV, scrolling, podcasts in the background - basically anything that fills the silence - and most of us are full up. There's no room left for quiet.

So how are we supposed to hear from God if we never give Him the silence to speak into?

That phone goes everywhere we go. Work, the bathroom, bed. It's always within reach, and it's always asking for our attention.

All this to say, don't blame God for feeling distant if you're spending hours a day on your phone or anything else that fills the quiet.

We have to be better here. HAVE to. Our kids are noticing. And we're missing out on everything God has for us when we don't make time for Him in silence.

THE STANDARD
Make room for your relationship with the Lord.

You never know what can happen until you make room.

I picked this as the standard because it's timeless - it applies no matter what season of life you're in.

No matter where you are right now, there's always more room to make for God. That's not a guilt trip. It's an invitation, for you and for me, to grow closer to the One who made us and knows what's best for us.

If you feel distant from God, or you're looking for answers, direction, or encouragement - just make room. He can do a lot with a little.

THE MOVE
Get quiet for 30 minutes.

For 30 minutes - just think of yourself as a one man wolf pack and run to silence (with God).

Even if it's just once this week, get away from your family for 30 minutes with one purpose: sit in silence before God and listen for what He wants to say. (And no, golfing doesn't count.)

Maybe it's a walk in the woods. Maybe it's an empty house for a half hour. Wherever it is - just you and God. No music, no talking. Just listening. Start by asking Him to speak to you about whatever's on your mind.

Know a man who'd find this useful? Forward this to him.

Hold the line,
